Telangana: Adani's proposed cement factory in Yadadri-Bhongir face stiff opposition from villagers

Hyderabad: Adani’s proposed cement factory in Yadadri-Bhongir district, about 70 km from here faced stiff opposition from the residents of at least 10 villages in Ramannapet, Mandal, where the plant is coming up.

The villagers on Wednesday opposed the establishment of the Adani Ambuja Cement Factory, fearing that dust and ash from the factory will devastate their green fields and disrupt their lives.

Villagers organized rallies in Ramannapet, where the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) is conducting a public hearing on the proposed cement factory on Wednesday.

In anticipation of a large turnout, police forces have been heavily deployed in the area.

The local BRS leaders firmly stated that they would not allow the factory to be established, as it would negatively impact the lives of the people.

Former BRS MLAs, including Bhupal Reddy, Gadari Kishore Kumar, and Chirumarthi Lingaiah, were placed under house arrest to prevent them from attending the public hearing.

Meanwhile, BRS working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) strongly condemned the house arrests and detentions of BRS leaders and environmental activists protesting against the Adani-Ambuja cement factory in Ramannapet, ahead of the public hearing.

KTR demanded their immediate release, accusing the Congress government of preventing the BRS leaders from attending a crucial public hearing on environmental impact assessment.

He termed the arrests as evidence of the repressive policies of the Congress government.

“There is no point in conducting an environmental impact assessment under such restrictive conditions,” he remarked.
