Telangana Assembly Elections 2023: TPCC Prez Revanth Reddy wins Kodangal Assembly seat

Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Anumula Revanth Reddy won the Kodangal assembly seat by defeating Patnam Narendra Reddy of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) by a margin of more than 30,000 votes on Sunday.
 
In a triangular contest between Patnam Narender Reddy of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Bantu Ramesh Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the TPCC president romped home.
 
However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to declare the result officially.
 
Revanth, who is also contesting from Kamareddy Assembly seat was in the second position over his nearest rival and BJP candidate K Venkata Ramana Reddy who was leading by more than 2000 votes at the end of 14th round out of the total 19 rounds. The incumbent Chief Minister and BRS President K Chandrashekar Rao was in the third position.
 
Born in 1967 at Kondareddy Palli of Mahoobnagar district, Revanth Reddy studied Bachelor of Arts from A. V. College, Osmania University.
 
He married Geetha, Jaipal Reddy’s niece and the couple has a daughter.
 
The TPCC President, who was a member of ABVP when he was a student in 2006 contested the local body election and was elected as ZPTC member from Midjil mandal as an independent candidate.
 
In 2007, Revanth was elected as an MLC. Later, he met TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu and joined the Telugu Desam Party.
 
In 2009 the 57-year-old Senior Congress leader was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from Kodangal constituency with 46.45% vote percentage as a TDP candidate.
 
He contested in 2014 election in undivided Andhra Pradesh and was elected to the Assembly form Kodangal with a majority of 14,614 votes .
 
The TPCC President was elected as the floor leader of Telugu Desam Party in Telangana Legislative Assembly.
 
On October 25, 2017, TDP removed Revanth as the floor leader of the Assembly after reports surfaced that he would consider joining the Congress party and on October 31, 2017 he joined the Congress.
 
He contested the 2018 Telangana Assembly election from Kodangal as a Congress candidate and lost to TRS candidate Patnam Narender Reddy tasting his first defeat in any election.
 
In September 2018, he was appointed one of the three working presidents of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). (UNI)
