Satna: The tug of war underway between Madhya Pradesh's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the principal-opposition Congress vis-a-vis the Chitrakoot Assembly constituency witnessed a dramatic sequence of events today when Mangal Singh – nephew of Prem Singh whose demise necessitated the by-poll – “entered” saffron party ranks on Tuesday morning but "returned" to Congress fold by evening.

The BJP issued a communique in the state capital announcing that Mr Singh accepted its membership. Sources said that he was annoyed over selection of candidate by the Congress and that led to his decision. He was garlanded by BJP state President NKS Chauhan. Later in the day, Congress leaders “explained” to Mr Singh and referred to his “political heritage”. The Assembly's Leader of the Opposition Ajay Singh also interacted with Mr M Singh who then denied that he joined the saffron party and added that he was taken there "against" his will. (UNI)
