TN spurious Liquor deaths : Raj Bhavan denies Guv remarks on banning temple fests being root cause for tragedy

Chennai: The Raj Bhavan has outrightly denied remarks quoting Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi seeking a ban on temple festivals, which were the root cause of alcohol deaths, that led to the Kallakurichi liquor tragedy that has claimed more than 50 lives.
 
In a communique here, it termed it as a fake news being circulated in the media to tarnish the image of the highest office and misleading and an police complaint was filed seeking a thorough probe into it.
 
Stating said such news were being circulated with malicious intent that creates unrest among the public, the Raj Bhavan said appropriate legal action would be taken against those responsile for spreading this fake information.
 
The communique said "Raj Bhavan, Tamil Nadu has been receiving inquiries from the public regarding a fake news circulating in media that the Governor of Tamil Nadu has stated that:
 
“Worship of family deity should be banned!. It is the family deity that converts Tamil People into drunkards; the festivals in family deity, Nattar Gods and village temples which are the root cause of alcohol deaths should be banned! -Governor Ravi”.
