New Delhi: The BJP has mocked at the Congress Working Committee decision to ‘appoint’ Sonia Gandhi as interim Congress chief and compared it with an act of sycophancy and ‘slavery’.

However,  the missive had a brief video with the protagonist in it saying, “Tum log Zindagi bhar Ma-bete ki Ghulami karte rahego (Entire your life you people - that is rest of Congress leaders - will behave as a slave to the mother-son duo)”.

On Saturday night minutes after Congress announced that having accepted the resignation of Rahul Gandhi, the CWC decided to give the responsibility to his 72-year-old mother Sonia Gandhi; Mr Malviya had said ‘appointment’ of Sonia Gandhi as interim Congress chief was “hardly” surprising and it only showed the total lack of options in the Congress party.

“....it should not be forgotten that in 2014 the Congress party was diminished miserably. Let us not forget that Sonia Gandhi was president of the Congress for 19 years and Congress was diminished significantly under her leadership,” Mr Malviya told a television channel.

Earlier, Sonia Gandhi has been Congress president for 19 years between March 14, 1998 and December 16, 2017 and had passed on the baton to son Rahul Gandhi.

However, after Congress lost the polls this year and as Mr Gandhi decided to step down, ending the suspense finally on Saturday, the CWC decided to appoint Sonia Gandhi as the interim chief of the party. (UNI)
