New Delhi: Farmers, who forcibly entered the National Capital on Tuesday to protest against the three contentious farm laws, hoisted their flag at the iconic Red Fort.

Several tractors mounted with the Indian flag were seen stationed inside the premises of Red Fort.

As per the plan approved by police, the farmers were allowed to take a march at three circular routes from Ghazipur, Singhu and Tikri border only after the Republic Day parade at Rajpath. However, the farmers decided to march much ahead of the time they were granted permission.

“The Delhi police had placed several barricades on the route allowed by them to stop the farmers from marching ahead,” a farmer told UNI.

The protesters were seen raising slogans at the Red Fort as they drove tractors with national flags. The Delhi police personnel were seen climbing the pole to take down the flag hoisted by farmers.

Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Pralhad Singh Patel has termed the hoisting of flag from Red Fort “sad and unfortunate”.

“The Red Fort is a symbol of the dignity of our democracy, the agitators should have stayed away from the Red Fort. I condemn the violation of its dignity. It is sad and unfortunate”, the Minister said.

As per the latest reports, many farmers have now started descending back to Ghazipur border where they were earlier stationed.
