Bengaluru: In a heartbreaking turn of events, four trekkers from Karnataka have succumbed to severe weather conditions while trekking in Uttarakhand, as reported by a senior government official on Wednesday.

A group of 19 adventurers set out on a trek in the picturesque yet perilous Sahasratal region of Uttarakhand. However, the joy of exploration turned into a desperate struggle for survival when extreme weather struck, claiming the lives of four trekkers.

Rescue operations are fervently underway to save the remaining trekkers, stated Rashmi Mahesh, the Principal Secretary of the Revenue Department.

"The identities of the deceased trekkers are still unknown," Rashmi revealed. She also mentioned that the District Magistrate of Garhwal is personally monitoring the rescue efforts.

In a bid to expedite the rescue mission, a helicopter from the Indian Air Force has been deployed to the area, battling the harsh conditions to reach the stranded trekkers.
