TRAGIC! 6 killed as truck hits group trying to remove SUV stuck on road divider after accident in Maharashtra's Beed district

Beed (Maharashtra): Six people died and another person received injuries when a speeding truck hit a group of rescuers trying to remove an SUV stuck on the road divider at Dhule-Solapur National Highway near Beed on the Gadhi bridge late on Monday night, police sources said.

Sources said the SUV was involved in a minor accident and hit the divider on the Gadhi Bridge near Gevrai city of the district. No one was injured in that accident. However, the vehicle was stuck on the divider.

While passers-by gathered to get the stuck vehicle out, a truck speeding on the highway hit seven people busy removing the SUV, killing six of them. Sources said the incident took place around midnight.

The deceased have been identified as Balu Atkare, Manoj Karande, Krishna Jadhav, Deepak Saroya, Bhagwat Paralkar and Sachin Nannaware. One unidentified person is seriously injured and is undergoing treatment.

The police rushed to the spot and told media that the deceased belonged to Gevrai area. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding truck driver, sources said.
