Meerut: A 63-year-old sports equipment businessman, Harvinder Singh, died tragically after getting trapped in a lift at his showroom in Devnagar, Surajkund, police confirmed on Sunday morning.

Singh, owner of Indian Sports House, was using an open cargo lift to reach the second floor when the power went out on Saturday evening.

As he leaned his head out to check, the electricity suddenly returned, causing the lift to move and his neck to get caught. He was dragged to the second floor, where he died instantly.

It took about 30 minutes before staff noticed him on CCTV. With the help of neighbours, the lift was forced open, and Singh’s body was recovered and taken to Nutima Hospital, where he was declared dead. Singh is survived by his wife and two sons.

Circle Officer Abhishek Tripathi confirmed the incident, stating that the body had been sent for postmortem despite initial reluctance from the family.
