What ! Man divorces wife through Triple Talaq after the SC’s verdict

Hoshangabad: Even as the Supreme Court’s historic judgement on the triple-talaq issue is making national headlines, officials got into a tizzy after an instance of a man thus divorcing his spouse and mother of a four-month-old girl through a letter came to light in this district headquarters. 

Local-resident Imran’s missive reached Fahreen today by post through the medium of the Shahar Qazi who – in a covering letter – approved of the dissolution. “I am in complete agreement with the court verdict. The Government should frame extremely stringent legislation in this regard so that women’s lives are not ruined,” Fahreen said. 

After the duo was married here on February 19 last year, she was ceaselessly "harassed" by her husband and in-laws despite her indigent father having given dowry as per his capacity. On August 16, Imran penned the talaqnama on a plain sheet of paper and dispatched it to the Qazi. He alleged that his wife spends considerable amount of time at her parents’ place, Fahreen’s parents and her sister assaulted Imran’s mother and the dowry charge is false. The case resulted in Imran’s mother "losing" her mental balance. (UNI)
