Agartala: A local court in Tripura’s Khowai district remanded a 45-year-old man for three days in police custody who was arrested a day before on the charge of raping his 13-year-old stepdaughter over the last three months in Champlai village under Khowai police station.
The sub-divisional police officer, Pushan Kanti Majumder, said on Thursday that the accused admitted the crime, but details are still awaited.
Police have taken steps to ensure the medical care of the girl, who has been traumatized and psychologically down. However, the cause of her injuries can only be ascertained after medical tests and a forensic investigation.
“The accused has a three-month-old daughter and has been living with the victim in the same house. Allegedly, the victim was molested and abused several times in the last three months but couldn’t divulge her ordeal to anybody. Recently, police learned the matter from her school, and immediately the accused was arrested,” Majumder stated.
According to the report, the victim didn’t want to return home on Monday after being released from school. Finally, after a long persuasion of teachers, she revealed her sufferings at home. Besides sexual atrocities, the victim was abused and tortured in the house, but she couldn’t tell her mother out of fear.
“With the court's direction, we shall shift to a home for her well-being and development,” police said.
