Two militants killed in Anantnag encounter

Anantnag: Two militants were killed by security forces in the ongoing encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in this south Kashmir district on Wednesday, a police spokesperson said.
 
Mobile internet service has been suspended in most parts of south Kashmir as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours.Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in almost entire town since early this morning to prevent any demonstrations during the CASO.
 
He said on a tip off about the presence of militants in a house at Lal Chowk, in the main town, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at 0400 hrs this morning.
 
When the security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants hiding in a house resorted to indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons. Security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter, they said.
 
Two militants were killed and the operation was going on when the reports last came in.Additional security forces have been rushed to prevent any demonstration in the area. Locals alleged that they were not being allowed to move out of their houses by the security forces since this morning in the town.
 
A complete shutdown was being observed in Bijbheara town and adjoining areas.Authorities have closed the Khanabal highway and vehicles are being diverted through alternative route. All roads leading to Anantnag town have been closed with barbed wire and nobody was being allowed to enter there.(UNI)
