Srinagar:Two militants were killed in an encounter with security forces, which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam on Monday.
Meanwhile, clashes were reported near the encounter site between the security forces and protestors, who hit the streets after gunfight started at village Khur Hajipora in Kulgam.
Official sources said that on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint CASO at village Khur Hanjipora on early Monday morning.
When the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there opened fire.
''Two militants were killed in the exchange of fire,'' they said.
Additional security forces were deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any demonstration.
However, scores of villages, particularly youth, hit the streets and clashed with security forces, who were preventing the demonstrators from moving towards the encounter site.(UNI)
