Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter which ensued after security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Kulgam early on Saturday.
A police official said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint search operation at Wanpora in Kulgam district following a tip of about the presence of militants.
''All exit points were sealed,'' he further said, adding when the security forces were moving towards a particular area in the village, militants hiding there, opened fire with automatic weapons.
Security forces retaliated ensuing in an encounter, they stated, adding two militants were killed in the encounter. Additional security forces were deployed to prevent any demonstration in the adjacent areas, he added.(UN)I
