The surprise switchover of Babul Supriyo, who was one of the fiercest critics of Mamata Banerjee, was sure to have an impact in the September 30 by-poll when political observers have been giving some weight to the BJP firebrand advocate Tibrewal. Babul Supriyo, who had announced on July 31 to go on a political sanyas, also fought unsuccessfully assembly poll in the Tollygunj, also falling under south Kolkata
.
Winner of the Asansol Parliament seat in 2014 and 2019, Babul Supriyo was also a crusader for democracy and swore to liberate Bengal from the TMC. Babul Supriyo, who held the union ministry for two occasions in 2014 and 2019 , was unhappy when he was dropped from the Modi ministry in the last reshuffle.(UNI)
