Udupi district on high alert after bomb diffused before blast at MIA

Udupi:Udupi district authorities was on high alert following the bomb detected at Mangalore International Airport (MIA).Udupi railway police said that security had been strengthened in all the railway stations, including Padubudri, Senapur, Barkur, Kundapur and Indrali in the district.
The police in mufti and uniform were on constant beats in the railway stations. Besides, dog squads and bomb detection squads have been deputed in the railways stations, they said.Metal detector was used for screening passengers, while random inspection was done all over the stations in the district, the sources added.
 
The district police have also visited places like Kollur (Mookambika Temple) and Sri Krishna Mutt in Udupi. Police security has been provided at tourist places in the district.The coastal security police in nine boats were on high vigilance across the coast.
 
MIA bomb case: Accused will be punished, says Bommai
 
Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister Basawaraj Bommai on Wednesday said the accused in the Mangaluru airport bomb case has surrendered and will be punished irrespective of the organisations he belongs to.
 
Addressing mediapersons here, he said, ''The Mangaluru police have questioned several people and many suspected places searched as part of the probe into finding out the culprit behind the planting of Improvised Explosive Device at Mangaluru International Airport on January 20. However, the accused has surrendered before the police and the cops are interrogating him now.''
 
He further added, ''Irrespective of the organisations the accused belongs to, he will be punished."''The probe is progressing well and more details in connection to the case will be revealed after the interrogation,'' he added.The accused Aditya Rao was taken for questioning by the Halasurugate Police, where he was being interrogated intensively, the sources further said.
 
According to them, he confessed that he planted an explosive device at Mangaluru Airport on Monday, saying that it was an act of revenge for denying him an employment by the Kempegowda International Airport Limited (KIAL).Rao was taken for medical examination to St Martha's hospital Bengaluru.(UNI)
