Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's immediate intervention regarding Ukraine officials disallowing Indians to cross the border.
"There are reports that force is being used against the Indians," the Chief Minister, who also raised this issue with Union External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, said in a letter to the Prime Minister.
Saying that those who have taken refuge in bunkers in places of eastern Ukraine like Kiev, Karkhiv and Sumi are in urgent need of food and water, the letter said.
"Urgent help for evacuating them through Russia is required. "Large number of students have walked to Poland border braving freezing cold. Ukraine officials are not allowing them to cross the border There are reports that force is being used against them."
Seeking steps for sending officials from Indian embassy, who can effectively communicate with the Ukraine officials at the border, he requested immediate steps for opening the route through Moldovia. He also thanked the Union Government for the steps taken so far. (UNI)
