Delhi govt gives nod to prosecute JNU student Umar Khalid under UAPA

New Delhi: With the clearance from the Union Home Ministry, a former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid will now be prosecuted under the Prevention of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in connection with a case related to the February Delhi riot case.
In this case the Delhi Government has already given its consent to the Delhi Police. 
 
We have received prosecution sanction against Umar Khalid in connection with a case registered against him under the UAPA. We have received sanctions from both the Delhi government and the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Delhi police officials said.
 
Umar Khalid was arrested on September 13 under the UAPA act in the communal violence in northeast Delhi.
 
"To prosecute one under section 13 of the UAPA, the prosecuting agency needs a sanction from the Ministry of Home Affairs", a senior Government official said.Delhi Police has already filed a charge sheet against 15 accused before the Court.(UNI)
