New Delhi: The United Left panel on Sunday made a clean sweep in Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU) polls by winning all the four posts, including that of President.
N Sai Balaji from United Left panel, which consists of SFI, AISA, AISF and DSF, was elected as President, Sarika Chaudhary of the panel became vice-president, Aejaz Ahmad Rather was elected General Secretary and Amutha Jaydeep Joint Secretary.
ABVP, which left no stone unturned to gain foothold in the varsity, and new entrant in the fray Chhatra RJD, drew a blank.
Left’s N Sai Balaji won the President post by a margin of 1,179 votes. He bagged 2,151 votes while ABVP’s Lalit Pandey managed to get only 972 votes.
For the post of vice-president, Sarika got 2,592 votes while ABVP’s Geetasri Boruah got 1,013 votes. The left panel candidate won by a margin of 1579 votes.
The polling for the JNUSU polls was held on Friday.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Shehla Rashid, activist and former vice-president, JNUSU said, “Congratulations to all the student activists of JNU who worked hard and with amazing patience, braving administrative repression and provocation from ABVP. United Left Panel leading on all posts. NSUI got 1 councilor post. This victory is for Najeeb Ahmad whose mother awaits him.” (UNI)
