Unnao: Rape accused tried to burn alive the victim

Unnao:In another case of crime against woman in Uttar Pradesh, a gang rape victim was torched by the accused under Bihar police station area of the district on Thursday morning.
The woman, who sustained 70 per cent burn injuries and was rushed to the hospital in critical state, has given statement before the police stating that five youths, who were accused in her rape were involved in the crime.
 
Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Veen said here that the 23 year-old woman was going to the station to go to Rae Bareli to meet her lawyer when, at around 0430 hours, five people including one Shivam, attacked her and tried to burn her alive by pouring some liquid on her.
 
The incident occurred just outside her Hindunagar village.The SP said the woman has been now rushed to the Trauma center in Lucknow.
 
He said that in March, the woman had lodged a police complaint at Lalganj police station in Rae Bareli of her gang rape by Shivam and Shubham. Later the court had given them bail two months back.
 
Meanwhile, UP DGP O P Singh said that both the rape accused were arrested by police in March last but they were given bail by the court.
 
"Police had done its work but how they were given bail was the matter of the court," he added.
 
He said of the five accused in the burning case, four have been arrested so far while the remaining two will be nabbed soon. The accused arrested have been identified as Harishanker, Subham and  two others. The prime accused Shivam was still at large.
 
The opposition political parties have blamed the ruling BJP for failing to protect the life of the women in the state.
 
UP Congress president Ajay Kumar Lalu alleged that the Yogi Aditynath government has no moral to continue and should resign at it could not protect the life of the women. Similar views were also made by SP MLC Sunil Singh Sajan.
 
On the other hand UP Women Commission chairperson Vimla Batham has taken serious note of the incident and has asked the Unnao district authorities to send them a detail report about the crime.
 
" We are very serious on the issue and would recommend to the government of stern action against the culprits," she said.
 
Earlier, BJP MLA from Unnao Kuldeep Singh Senger was languishing in jail along with his henchmen, for raping a girl and later trying to kill her to remove the evidence.(UNI)
