Chennai: A police constable attached to the second Battalion of the Tamil Nadu Special Police at suburban Avadi, succumbed to burns on Monday morning after he was set ablaze by his woman live in partner.
Police said, the cop Venkatesh (31), who was set fire by his partner Asha, at his police quarters while he was in deep slumber last night, suffered 80 per cent burns.He succumbed to burns at the Government Kilpauk Medical College hospital this morning.
Police have altered the case into a murder case against Asha after she confessed to committing the crime.She was later arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Police said the duo had a wordy duel ought over his new relationship with a policewoman, leading to Asha attempting to murder Venkatesh.
She initially claimed that Venkatesh had attempted suicide, but later confessed that she doused him with petrol and set him ablaze as she was upset with his new relationship.
Venkatesh was earlier married to one Jaya from Villupuram in 2012 and the couple have two children. He separated from Jaya after he began his relationship with Asha in 2015, who too deserted her husband and two children, and started living with the cop.(UNI)
