Rampur (UP): Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Azam Khan will file his nomination papers from prison, it was informed. Currently Khan is lodged in Sitapur jail in connection with various cases.
The court on Monday had permitted him to file his nomination from the jail.
It may be noted that SP has announced the name of Azam as it's candidate from Rampur Sadar seat.
Following the court's permission the SP MP will complete his nomination process in the presence of the jailor.
As per the information received here the court has faxed all the documents required for filing of the nomination.
It may be noted that polling in Rampur is scheduled in the second phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on February 14 for which January 28 is the last day of filing the nomination papers.
As hearing in the cases against him is pending in the court there is little possibility that Azam can come out the jail before the last date of the filing of the nomination papers.
His proposers and supporters have left for Sitapur jail along with the papers required for filing of his nomination.
It may be mentioned here that around 100 cases are lodged against Azam. Barring two he has got bail in all the other cases.
One case is related enemy property lodged at Azeem Nagar police station, in which the court has reserved it's decision on Khan's bail application.
The second one is related to Lucknow in which bail process is underway.
Azam is lodged in Sitapur jail from around two years in connection with these cases. (UNI)
