UP: BJP leads in 55 seats; nail biting finish in majority of seats

Lucknow: BJP has doing fairly well in the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, though in several seats are going to witness a nail biting finish.Of the total 80 seats, BJP was leading in 55 seats followed by 13 of the BSP, 8 of the SP, 2 of Congress and 2 of Apna Dal (Sonelal).

In preliminary vote percentage, BJP has got around 51 per cent of votes with party candidates getting a vote share of around 19 per cent 16.2 per cent by SP and 6.31 per cent by the Congress.

Among the VVIP candidates, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who was earlier trailing by over 6,000 votes against BJP's Smriti Irani, has now taken a slender lead of 1,700 votes. But Union minister Maneka Gandhi is trailing by over 6,000 votes in Sultanpur but her son Varun Feroz Gandhi was leading by over 16,000 votes in Pilibhit. Bot the mother and son had swapped their seats in this elections.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was leading by over 52,000 votes in Varanasi and similarly Home Minister Rajnath Singh was leading by over 29,000 votes in Lucknow.

But there are more than 50 per cent of seats, where the leading margin is very thin and there is change of the leader after every round of counting. In Rampur, Saharanpur, Kairana, Ghazipur, Mohanlalganj, Ferozabad, Meerut, Bijnore and several other seats are witnessing a tough battle of ballots.

The BSP candidates in Amorha, Sambhal, Moradabad, Ghosi have taken big leads while SP candidate from Etawah, Mainpuri, Azamgarh, Kannauj were leading against their rivals.

The BJP candidates were ahead in majority of seats including Gorakhpur, where Bhojpuri star Ravi Kishan is set to snatch the seat from SP. A strong belt of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the SP had wrested the seat from BJP in the bypolls. Ravi Kishan is leading by over 55,000 votes.

BJP Unnao candidate Sakshi Maharaj was leading by over 92,000 votes.In 2014 Lok Sabha polls,  BJP had won 71 seats along with 2 others by their partner Apna Dal while SP won the rest 5 seats. BSP drew a blank in the last LS polls.(UNI)
