UP Board exams deferred till May 20; school, colleges closed till May 15

Lucknow: After the CBSE, the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Council which conducts UP Board examinations have postponed High School and Intermediate exams scheduled to start from May 8.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered closure of all schools and colleges in the state till May 15. Earlier it was closed till April 30.

State Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma informed about the decision in Bareilly virtually on Thursday.      

Secondary and Higher Education Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma said that the new date for high school and inter examinations will be decided after May 20, while the examinations of all the universities of the state have also been postponed till May 15.

 During the online address of the initiation ceremony of MJP Ruhelkhand University in Bareilly, Dr Sharma said on Thursday that the UP Board's high school and intermediate examinations have been postponed till May 20.

Similarly, university examinations and off line classes are being postponed till May 15.  After this, a further decision will be taken by meeting under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.

Earlier, UP board examinations were postponed due to earlier panchayat elections in the state.  The UP board examinations were to be held from April 24 first.

After this, due to the election of the panchayat, it was deferred till May 8.  The schedule of all exams to be held from May 8 was also decided.  It has now been postponed due to corona virus infection.

 The Chief Minister has also issued orders regarding all schools and colleges from class one to 12, only after Deputy CM Dr. Dinesh Sharma announced the UP Board to postpone the high school and inter examinations.  Now all the schools and colleges from class one to class 12 will be closed till May 15 in the state. 

This time more than 56 lakh students have registered themselves for the UP board examination. 

Top officials of the Department of Secondary Education are also believed to be infected with corona.

State Additional Chief Secretary Secondary Education Aradhana Shukla as well as 17 of the top 19 officers of the Uttar Pradesh Board are corona infected.

Apart from Additional Chief Secretary Aradhana Shukla, three Special Secretary, Director and five Deputy Director level officers are in the grip of Corona. (UNI)
