Uttar Pradesh: 9 injured as van catches fire after being hit by truck

Bulandshahr (UP): Nine pilgrims sustained serious burn injuries when a CNG fitted van caught fire after being hit by a truck in Jahangirabad town in Bulandshahr district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, a senior police officer said here.
 
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said that 9 pilgrims, including four women, four girls and a teenager, all residents of Kakri village, left for Anupshahr for Ganga Snan on the occasion of Guru Purnima.
 
He said that as the van reached Jahangirabad trisection the truck hit the van leading to leakage in its CNG tank. "Due to leakage in the tank the van caught fire. The passerby broke the window panes and pulled the passengers out, but by that time they sustained serious burn injuries," he said.
 
The pilgrims were taken to the Jahangirabad community health centre from where they were referred to the district hospital. "The injured were later referred to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi," he said.
