Bareilly: A tailor was arrested on Thursday from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district for publicly threatening to behead former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, whose comments on the Prophet led to violent protests throughout the nation and also cost several lives.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satyarth Anirudh Pankaj said that a video of a person talking about beheading Nupur Sharma had gone viral.
As the statement was made with the intention of disturbing social harmony and hurting the religious sentiments of a particular class, taking cognizance of the incident the matter was investigated, he said.
It was found that it was related to Faridpur police station. An FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the IT Act and accused Nasir, a resident of Kassawan was arrested, he added.
The SSP said that the accused runs a tailoring shop in Faridpur. (UNI)
