Uttar Pradesh: Man commits suicide after strangling wife to death over suspected illicit affair

Etawah (UP): A man killed his wife on suspicion of her having an illicit relation with a police personnel and later committed suicide in Saifai area of Etawah district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said on Monday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Satya Pal Singh said that late on Sunday night, Avneesh, alias Manoj Yadav (30), a resident of Nagla Chain Sukh village, strangled his wife Sonam (20).

"After this, Manoj hanged himself and committed suicide," he said.

He said that by the time the police and the forensic team reached the spot after being informed by the family members, the couple had died.

"Before committing suicide, Manoj sent a video to his relatives stating his family members and in-laws were innocent, and he committed the crime as his wife was having an affair with a youth, who lives in his neighbourhood," he said.

The ASP said that both bodies have been sent for postmortem examination and the matter is being investigated.

"Manoj, who was a truck driver, got married to Sonam in 2015, and the couple has a son," he said.
