A shocking case of abuse of power to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district after an obscene video of a Junior Engineer (JE) from the electricity department in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district with a woman went viral on the social media.

The accused JE is identified as Ravindra Kumar who is posted at the Gaukhar electricity substation of Basti.

According to the woman’s complaint filed with the Superintendent of Police (SP), the incident occurred when she approached the JE Ravindra Kumar to waive off her high electricity bill in April. JE came to her home to check her meter and increased closeness with her on the pretext of bill waiver.

She alleged that one day Kumar offered her spiked cold-drink and after drinking it she passed out. Then he raped her and also made video of the assault. He threatened to make the video public if she reported the incident. Then he started demanding her sexual favours.

Frustrated by his atrocities, the woman made a plan. She installed a camera in her house and invited the JE home. He came and started his obscene acts, which got captured in the video.

The police have registered a case based on her complaint and are investigating the matter. Deputy Superintendent of Police Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari confirmed the registration of a case and assured that a strict action will be taken after investigation.

The electricity department has also initiated an internal inquiry, pledging cooperation with the authorities.
