Rae Bareli: Two self-proclaimed exorcists were arrested by the police on Tuesday for sacrificing a 10-year-old Dalit boy for the greed of buried treasure in the Salon area of Rae Bareli district here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sanjeev Kumar Srivastava said that the police team has cracked the case of the blind murder of the boy and arrested two so-called exorcists with the murder weapon. "One of the murderers caught by the police is said to be the maternal uncle of the minor deceased," he said.

He said on February 19 Rakesh Kumar Gautam gave a written complaint at the police station that his 10-year-old son Sudhir had gone to play somewhere on the evening of February 18 and had not returned.

"The body of the deceased was found floating in the Samaspur Bird Sanctuary Lake at around 4:30 pm on the same day. The post-mortem of the body confirmed that it was a murder," he said.

The ASP said acting on a tip off the police arrested Dilbagh Gautam and Guddu Baba, both residents of Salon.

"During interrogation, Dilbagh said that he and Guddu Baba practised black magic. Dilbagh's mother was ill, for which Guddu Baba gave her sanctified water to drink, due to which she started recovering," he said.

He said Guddu told Dilbagh that if he wanted to see his mother completely well, he would have to arrange for a child, whose sacrifice would cure his mother and he would also get the buried treasure.

"Dilbagh called Sudhir and on February 18 both the so-called tantriks killed him and threw the body in the lake and destroyed other evidence as well," he said.
