Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Tuesday submitted his resignation to Governor Baby Rani Maurya.
Mr Rawat is expected to address media persons later in the evening.
According to sources, this major development comes just a day after Mr Rawat met central BJP leaders in the national capital.
