Srinagar: Asserting that there was a perfect synergy between the State Police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the state, Director General of Police S P Vaid said the Unified Command structure under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has proved very beneficial in fighting militancy and maintaining law and order. “There is a perfect synergy between Police and CRPF, who have been working and coordinating at different levels in tackling militancy and law and order situations.
The Unified Command structure under the chairmanship of CM has proved very beneficial for the co-operation between Police, CAPFs and Army,” said Dr Vaid during an interaction between senior officers of police and the 48th batch of CRPF trainee officers at Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Srinagar. He also said that the fear of security forces has gripped the millitants so badly that L-e-t Commander post is lying vacant for months and no one desires to be promoted there.
During the interaction, the DGP highlighted different policing initiatives taken by J&K Police for the maintenance of law and order and for better police-public relations. He said police community partnership groups was one such initiative in which the jurisdictional police officers have been directed to convene meetings of respectable citizens of their respective areas to know their problems and grievances. Dr Vaid said his mechanism had proved very fruitful as the issues pertaining to police department were redressed on thespot while as other issues pertaining to other departments were conveyed to the respective head of the departments, thus police is acting as catalyst.
With regard to the cooperation between the two forces, the visiting training officers were told that police and CRPF have been working shoulder to shoulder for the last many years and mechanisms were in place to tackle the misuse of social media by anti-national/anti-social elements and to keep check on radicalization. The common problems of police and CRPF such as safe housing, better hospital facilities were also discussed in the interaction. The DGP said the initiative of the DG CRPF and the Director of CRPF academy for this interaction was praiseworthy. He hoped that in future, attachment of longer duration will be chalked out for benefit of the trainee officers. (UNI)
