Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has initiated legal proceedings against Prajwal Revanna, NDA candidate from Hassan Lok Sabha constituency, following a complaint lodged by a party employee.

The allegations against Prajwal involve serious charges of sexual assault, triggering an investigation into the matter.

The complaint prompted the CID to file a case against Prajwal. Alongside accusations of rape, the CID has invoked sections about voyeurism, coercion, and filming without consent based on the complainant's statement.

According to the complaint, the alleged victim accused Prajwal of sexually assaulting her at gunpoint and recording the heinous act on his mobile devices. She claims that the incident occurred on the premises of Prajwal's residence, where Prajwal purportedly threatened her life and that of her husband if she disclosed the assault.

Moreover, she alleged Prajwal subjected her to repeated acts of abuse, threatening to publicise the recorded material if she resisted.

The allegations extend beyond a singular incident, with reports suggesting Prajwal's involvement in the sexual abuse of multiple women. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been tasked with probing the matter, amid a flurry of explicit video clips purportedly depicting the accused engaging in similar misconduct.

Prajwal, the BJP-JDS alliance's candidate for the Hassan Lok Sabha seat, left the country on a diplomatic passport following the conclusion of polling on April 26. The JDS leadership has taken swift action, suspending Prajwal from the party in light of the grave allegations.

The development comes against the backdrop of the JDS aligning with the NDA in September last year, adding a political dimension to the unfolding controversy surrounding one of its prominent members.
