International students from countries including Bangladesh, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan staying at Ahmedabad's Gujarat University hostel were reportedly assaulted for offering Namaz in the hostel campus.

Mob with saffron shawls came to the A-Block of the hostel chanting Jai Sri Ram slogans and beat up the students offering namaz and pelted stones at them. The mob also vandalised their vehicles.

A foreign student claimed that though the police arrived at the spot, they let the mob flee.

Some students are injured and are currently admitted to SVP hospital.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Asaduddin Owaisi wrote on X, “What a shame. When your devotion & religious slogans only come out when Muslims peacefully practice their religion. When you become unexplainably angry at the mere sight of Muslims. What is this, if not mass radicalisation? This is the home state of Amit Shah & Narendra Modi, will they intervene to send a strong message? I am not holding my breath. Dr S Jaishankar domestic anti-Muslim hatred is destroying India’s goodwill.”
