Shimla: Mount Jakhu, renowned for its dense oak and deodar forest and a significant monkey population, experienced an unusual and disruptive event early Monday morning. A violent clash between two groups of monkeys shattered the signature peace of the area, causing unexpected disruptions, including an impact on the local power supply for hours.

Eyewitnesses reported that the altercation among the monkeys escalated rapidly, with the agitated primates interfering with the power tower and high-voltage lines.

This resulted in a dramatic short-circuit, creating a series of sparks, intense heat, and explosions that mimicked the sounds of a gun battle. The chaotic scene, captured on video by a passerby, quickly went viral on social media, causing widespread concern among local residents.

Civil administration officials, upon investigating the incident, confirmed that the disturbances were indeed caused by the aggressive behaviour of the monkeys. They reassured the public that although loose wires and power spans occasionally trigger nuisances, it is rare for monkeys to interfere with power lines to this extent.

The power supply in the area was disrupted for several hours due to the continuous sparksand short-circuits in the forest. Technicians worked diligently to restore normalcy.

Experts suggest that increased competition for control of territory among different monkey groups could be a factor behind such violent encounters. While territorial disputes among monkeys are not uncommon, the incident underscores the need for effective measures to manage wildlife-human interactions and ensure the safety of the essential infrastructure.

Local authorities are now considering additional strategies to mitigate such occurrences in the future.
