Lucknow:In a major breakthrough, Uttar Pradesh police's Special Task Force(STF) gunned down the sharp shooter Amar Dubey, a henchman of most wanted Vikas Dubey involved in the killing of 8 policemen in Kanpur on Friday last, officials confirmed here on Wednesday.
Two policemen including SHO of Modaha police station in Hamirpur Manoj Shukla were injured during the encounter along with an STF cop.STF IG Amitabh Yash has confirmed about the encounter in which Amar Dubey was shot dead earlier in the morning.
The IG said that Amar was trying to escape to Madhya Pradesh and was traveling in an SUV, when he was surrounded by STF men and was gunned down when he opened fire on the policemen.However, some other persons who were travelling with Amar escaped.
Police has recovered an automatic firearm along with a bag. A search operation was underway in the nearby villages where Amar stayed in the night.Amar was among the criminals who were involved in killing of 8 policemen and his name is in the 13th number of the FIR.
Police had also announced a reward of Rs 25,000 on Amar Dubey, a distant relative of Vikas. He was among the top 10 associate of Vikas Dubey and nephew of one Atul Dubey, another henchman of the criminal .
This is the third death in police encounter of criminals of Bikaru incident so far. One of the criminals was also arrested by the STF. Police had announced reward of Rs 25,000 each on 18 criminals associate with Vikas Dubey.
Meanwhile, UP police missed a chance to nab Vikas Dubey from a hotel in Faridabad in Haryana on Tuesday evening, when he gave the police team a slip.
Vikas was on run along with his family members after the incident even as UP police had announced a bounty of Rs 2.50 lakh on him.
On the other hand Kanpur police has removed all the 68 policemen deployed at Choubeypur police station and were sent to police lines on Tuesday night.(UNI)
