Bahraich (UP): A wolf was killed by the villagers after it attacked a child in the Mahasi area of Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, Forest Department sources said here on Sunday.

Sources said that since August 17, a pack of wolves had spread terror in the entire area. The pack of wolves had killed ten people including a woman and 9 children and injured 54 people.

Reports said that the wolf attacked a boy Niaz. After hearing the scream of Niaz's mother, the wolf picked up a kid and started running away, but the villagers surrounded him and killed him.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Ajit Pratap Singh said it seems that this is the same wolf that was being searched for".

He said the appearance of the wolf matches the pictures taken from the drone. He said that the biggest thing is that now no new wolf will go to the population.

Singh clarified that the Forest Department team will remain in the area until it is confirmed that now there is no wolf left. He said that the SDO has been appointed as the investigating officer in connection with this incident, who will investigate under what circumstances the villagers killed the wolf.

The villagers heaved a sigh of relief after the death of the wolf.
