New Delhi: Voting began this morning for the by-election to the Bawana Assembly constituency, which is witnessing a three-cornered contest between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party, Congress and BJP. Voting, which began at 0800 hrs , will continue till 1800 hrs. As many as 2,94, 589 voters are expected to decide the fate of the eight candidates, including three-time former MLA Surender Kumar.
According to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the number of voters in the Bawana region are 2,94,589 voters. Out of these voters, 1,64,114 are males and 1,30,143 females. The voting began in 379 polling stations in 67 places of the constituency. It is being held with Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines. The by-election was necessitated following AAP MLA Ved Prakash's resignation. The BJP has fielded former AAP legislator Prakash, who had switched over to the party during the MCD polls, the ruling AAP fielded Ram Chandra, a veteran party worker and social activist and Congress Mr Kumar.
