Was told to keep mum on farmers issue, will get President post: Governor Satya Pal Malik

Was told to keep mum on farmers issue, will get President post: Governor Satya Pal Malik

Baghpat: Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik has once again attacked the Modi government on the issue of farmers and said that he was asked to keep quiet on the subject and he would be made the President if he remained silent.

Malik, who arrived to participate in Kisan Mazdoor Sammelan organised at Ghitaura village, even accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of having no sympathies towards the farmers. "I was asked to keep quiet and was told that you will become the President if I keep mum," he claimed.

Malik accused the central government of not showing honesty on the law related to Minimum Support Price (MSP) and said that the Prime Minister has no sympathy for the farmers.

He said, "The PM has no sympathy for the farmers. You are reducing the price of what the farmer produces and you are increasing the price of what he buys, from where will you double the farmer's income? The central government has no mercy on the farmers of the country. I have not been bitten by any dog, who while being Governor, would mess with the government," he said while questioning the government.

Meghalaya Governor said that the government has not shown honesty on the MSP law. "The farmers will not be satisfied until the MSP law is withdrawn, so the government should clear its intention on it," he said.

In a warning tone, he said, "No one should consider the farmers as helpless. These are the same farmers, who played an important role in the independence of the country. The intention of the government on MSP is not clear. I am also in the government, but I will always raise the voice in the interest of the farmers," he said.

Malik said that he felt very sad when 700 farmers lost their lives during 13 month long agitation against farm laws in Delhi. "People sitting in high positions in the country express their condolences on the death of an animal, but not even two words of condolences come out of anyone's mouth on the death of farmers," he said.

He said, "Chaudhary Charan Singh used to say that if the farmer community becomes one, then the rule of Delhi will remain with them. If the farmers fight together, they will rule the country. Farmers had agriculture, land and army recruitment, now this too has been taken away from them." (UNI)
