WATCH - Pakistan student Asma Shafique thanks Indian embassy in Kyiv and PM Modi for evacuating her from Ukraine

New Delhi: Alongwith its students, India has reportedly evacuated students from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tunisia from war torn Ukraine under Operation Ganga.

One of the Pakistani civilians, Asma Shafique has thanked the Indian embassy in Kyiv and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for evacuating her from war torn Ukraine.

"I am really thankful to the Indian Embassy in Kyiv for supporting us all the way here. I am also thankful to Prime Minister of India, I hope to get home safely because of Indian Embassy," she was heard saying in a video shared by PIB.


The gesture by the Indian authorities has touched many hearts. "Humanity triumphs over everything else," a user wrote on Twitter.

Some called it an example of "humanity beyond borders". "Extraordinarily phenomenal, Awesome and inspiring," another wrote on Twitter.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for evacuating Bangladeshi citizens from Ukraine, government sources familiar with the development told UNI on Wednesday.

India has evacuated nine Bangladeshis from war torn Ukraine under Operation Ganga.

India on Tuesday said about 18,000 Indians citizens stranded in Ukraine have been brought back to India by special flights under Operation Ganga so far.

Indians evacuated from Sumy have arrived at Poltava, and boarded the train to Lviv. They are likely to arrive in India by Wednesday night on flights under Operation Ganga. (Inputs from UNI)
