New Delhi: To counter the spread of COVID-19, the Delhi Government on Thursday decided to impose weekend curfew in the national capital.

The announcement in this regard was made by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at a press conference here.

According to the directives, essential activities, marriages and other permitted activities will be allowed with curfew passes.

Auditoriums, malls, gyms, pools and spas will be closed, the Delhi Chief Minister said.

Cinemas halls will operate at 30 per cent capacity, Mr Kejriwal said.

He further informed that one weekly market will be allowed per day per zone.

People will not be allowed to dine-in restaurants and only Take-aways will be allowed, Mr Kejriwal said.

This announcement came after the Delhi Chief Minister met with Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal and other officials.

Delhi on Wednesday reported its highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases since the pandemic erupted with 17,282 infections and 100 deaths.

The figure makes Delhi the worst-hit city in the second wave of infections raging through the country.
