New Delhi: Messaging and video/audio calling app WhatsApp has introduces a new ‘Safety Overview’ function to ensure group safety and reduce the chances of potential scams.

The new feature will automatically alert users when they join an unknown group chat.

Reportedly, the Meta-owned platform launched this function amid the revelation of actions taken against 6.8 million accounts linked to global scam networks. This new feature will automatically display a set of information, including the total number of members, the group creator, and the date when the group was created.

The company said in a statement, “We’re launching a new safety overview that we’ll show you when someone who is not in your contacts adds you to a new WhatsApp group you may not recognise. It will include key information about the group and tips to stay safe.”

As end-to-end encryption is the prime motive of WhatsApp, the platform is also focusing on releasing additional safety tools to protect its worldwide user base.
