Who is Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the new Chief Justice of India

New Delhi: Justice Sanjiv Khanna took oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India (CJI) here on Monday.
 
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to Khanna in a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
 
PM Narendra Modi, defence minister Rajnath Singh, vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar and former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud were among those present at the ceremony.
 
Khanna takes over as CJI to fill the vacancy created by Chandrachud's retired from the Supreme Court on November 10.
 
Khanna will serve a tenure of almost 6 months and retire on May 1, 2025.
 
Who is Justice Sanjiv Khanna?
 
Justice Khanna served as a Supreme Court judge since January 2019.
 
Hailing from an illustrious Delhi-based family, Justice Khanna is the son of former Delhi High Court judge Justice Dev Raj Khanna and the nephew of prominent former Supreme Court judge H R Khanna.
