Aurangabad: A 40-year-old brain dead woman patient has given a new lease of life to three patients as she donated her three vital organs, here on Wednesday night.
The brain dead woman patient had met with an accident on August 23 near Khamgaon along with her husband who was killed on the spot.

The woman had sustained severe brain injuries and was subsequently declared 'brain dead' by doctors. A team of doctors from United Sigma multi super speciality hospital here, then discussed the condition of patient with her 19-year-old daughter, who gave her consent for the donation of her mother's organs.

Immediately after her consent, doctors sought permission from the state assistant director of health services for the organ donation and all the legal formalities were completed by last evening, after which the doctors performed the surgery which gave new lease of life to three other patients.

Marathwada, known as the backward belt of Maharashtra, continues to be on top in the organ donation with at least 104 patients getting a new lease of life in recent years. This was the 25th case of organ donation in the Aurangabad city and third case of 2019.(UNI)
