Bengaluru: BJP Veteran B S Yeddyurappa will go on record for enjoying the shortest term as Chief Minister of Karnataka --for a mere three days.Mr Yeddyurappa who was sworn in on May 17, as he had promised before the Assembly elections, resigned even before he could take the Confidence vote in the Assembly on Saturday thus being in the office only for three days.
His floor test was following a direction from the Supreme Court on a petition by the Congress and JDS challenging Governor Vajubhai Vala's invitation to the BJP to form the government after it emerged as the single largest party securing 104 seats in the May 12 Assembly elections.
The Congress which secured 78 seats had extended support to the Janata Dal (S) which won 38 seats to form the government and had staked claim with the list of 117 members supporting the alliance.Even though Mr Yeddyurppa had sought seven days time to prove his majority, the Governor had provided him 15 days.
Mr Yeddyurappa saw his first tenure ending barely a week after he was sworn in on November 12, 2007. But he failed in the floor test taken on November 19 the same year with the JD(S) failing to support his government.
Again after the 2008 elections he was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 30. But after three years he had to quit following corruption charges levelled by the Lokayukta in its report on iron ore mining scam.(UNI)
