Lucknow: Due to the concern of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath towards the public, the prices of petrol and diesel in Uttar Pradesh are lowest in the country.

Adityanath rejected the proposal given by the officials about a month ago to increase the rate of VAT on petrol and diesel. It is not right in the public interest, officials here on Monday confirmed.

The Chief Minister had reduced rates on petrol and diesel by Rs 12 per liter before Diwali last year. Even today, the amount of VAT tax on petrol and diesel in the state is the lowest in the country. Whereas the rates of VAT in other states are almost double as compared to Uttar Pradesh.

Despite this, VAT rates are not being cut by the governments in those states. Whereas the central government has recently cut central excise.

Petrol and diesel prices are low in BJP-ruled states. In Noida, petrol is being sold at Rs 96.57 and diesel at Rs 89.96 per liter and in Lucknow, petrol is being sold at Rs 96.57 and diesel at Rs 89.76 per liter.

Whereas in the governments of opposition parties, petrol in the capital Delhi is Rs 96.72 and diesel is Rs 89.62 per liter. Petrol is selling at Rs 111.35 and diesel at Rs 97.28 per liter in Mumbai. Petrol price in Kolkata is Rs 106.03 and diesel is Rs 92.76 per litre.

Petrol is being sold for Rs 112 in Andhra Pradesh, Rs 112 in Maharashtra, Rs 110 in Telangana, and Rs 109 in Rajasthan. Whereas petrol is being sold at the rate of Rs 96 in Uttar Pradesh, Rs 95 in Uttarakhand, Rs 96 in Gujarat and Rs 97 per liter in Haryana. (UNI)
