1 soldier killed, 5 others injured in militant attack on Army convoy

Srinagar: One soldier was killed and five others were injured when militants attacked an Army convoy on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway in south Kashmir today, official sources said here.

However, a Defence Ministry spokesperson said that details were being collected. The sources said the militants resorted to indiscriminate firing on an Army convoy at Qazigund on the highway. Security forces and Road Opening Party (ROP) in the area also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

Six soldiers travelling in the vehicle were injured. The injured were immediately taken to a hospital where one of them succumbed, they said. Additional security forces have been rushed from nearby camps and a massive search operation launched to nab the militants. Meanwhile, traffic on the highway has been stopped as a precautionary measure, the sources added. (UNI)
