2 killed, several injured in security force action in Budgam

Srinagar: Two youth was killed while several others were injured, when security force opened fire to disperse demonstrators, who were trying to disrupt the operation against militants in central Kashmir district of Budgam, official sources said. They said people, mostly youth, took to the streets at Chadoora in Badgam, where a fierce encounter ensued this morning between militants holed up in a house and security forces.
 

As the demonstrators tried to break the security cordon and march towards the encounter site, security forces burst teargas shells, which had no impact as the demonstrators, who were pelting stones. Security forces opened fire besides fired pellets to control the stone pelting mob, they said, adding that several youth were injured. The injured were rushed to Sub District Hospital Chadoora from where two of them were referred to SHMS hospital.

One of the youth, identified as Zahid Rashid, who received a bullet injury on his neck, was declared brought dead in the Srinagar hospital. Another youth, identified as Kaisar Ganai, who received pellet injuries succumbed at SMHS hospital. Meanwhile, shop and business establishments have downed shutters and traffic is off the roads in Budgam, where only security forces vehicles could be seen plying. (UNI)
