Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in a village in south Kashmir district of Pulwama today. Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia told UNI that following specific information about presence of militants, security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation at village Tahab in Pulwama district early this morning.
However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area, the militants hiding there, started firing at them with automatic weapons. The security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter, he said, adding two militants were killed in the exchange of fire. The operation was still going on when the reports last came in, he added. Meanwhile, official sources said that the slain militants have been identified as Abid Manzoor Magray and Irfan Sheikh. (UNI)
