Jammu: Two Army jawans attained martyrdom while four others were injured in a fierce gun-battle in Nagrota area on city outskirts here. In a separate encounter, a BSF jawan was injured and three militants were killed as an infiltration bid was foiled on international border in Samba district of Jammu region. 'A group of three to four terrorists early this morning at around 0530 hrs attacked an Army’s 166 Field Regiment in Nagrota area here with an attempt to enter the camp,’’ official sources here told UNI. They said that the terrorists lobbed a grenade to enter the camp and opened a fire. 'Army personnel took their positions and retaliated to the fire and gun-fight started,’’ they added. Five Army jawans were injured in an ensuing encounter while two of them, including a major, have attained martyrdom.
The Jammu-Srinagar national highway has been closed for the traffic. ‘’The old route has been closed for the traffic while vehicles are allowed on the new route only depending on the prevailing situation,’’said a police officer. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu has ordered the closure of all the schools in the Nagrota tehsil in view of ongoing gun-battle. However, BSF also foiled an infiltration bid in Chamliyal area of Ramgarh Sector in Samba district this morning, police here said. 'A group of around 5 to 6 militants fired at the forward BSF posts in Ramgarh sector in a bid to sneak into the Indian territory,’’ said the police.
Troopers in retaliation fired at them, which triggered an encounter in which one jawan namely as Sanjay Kumar got injured and he has been rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu. 'The militants had holed up in a tubewell but the BSF fired heavily on them thus killing three of them and pushing back the remaining,’’ said an official. He said that three militants were neutralized by the troops while infiltration bid was foiled successfully. ‘’Search operation was in progress as possibility of hiding of more militants cannot be ruled out,’’ he added.
