Lucknow: The Election Commission (EC) has debarred altogether 25 candidates of Uttar Pradesh from contesting elections for three years, as they failed to file their election expenditure details for the 2012 Assembly polls. Of these, six had contested UP Assembly polls in 2012 from Muzaffarnagar and Maharajgang districts. EC, in its directive to all the respective districts from where these 25 candidates had contested in 2012, said that despite serving various notices, they had failed to file details of their poll expenditures.

"Despite serving repeated notices to file election expenditures, these candidates neither complied with that nor made any clarification (in that regard). ''Under Section 10 (A) of the Representative of People Act 1951, all these 25 candidates are barred from contesting election for either House of Parliament, as well as the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council of any state and Union territory for the next three years," the letter issued by EC said.

The EC further instructed the Chief Election Officer of the state to publish the order in the state gazette and asked DMs of the respective districts to display the same on notice boards. The names of all 25 barred candidates would be made public, once the poll dates for UP polls are announced, sources here today said. (UNI)
